Over the Hill Mob

Status:Active, open to new members
When: On Wednesdays
Venue: Out and About
Group Leader:- Isabel Watson Tel 01387 721704

The 4th Wednesday of each month

The Over the Hill Mob is a walking group offering slightly more challenging walks than the other two u3a walking groups but they are all suitable for active u3a members.

We are a friendly bunch who enjoy the tremendous variety of scenery in Dumfries and Galloway, and sometimes beyond.

Our programme details the length, ascent and difficulty of the walk. To the right of the walk title the abbreviation is showing you the grade, distance in miles and total ascent. We normally car share with all passengers contributing to the cost of fuel. We meet beside the Costa coffee outlet on the Cuckoo Bridge retail park.

If you wish you can travel to the start of the walk independently but always advise the leader if you propose doing this.

Please note:

  • All walkers walk at their own risk.
  • If you intend to make your own way to the start of a walk then please let the leader know in advance as the start point may be changed.
  • Appropriate footwear is essential on all walks. Also bring waterproof clothing, spare jumper, packed lunch, drinks, torch and a personal first aid kit.

December 2025

Pictures from the walk up Crofthead Hill in March 2025. Crofthead is on the Southern Upland Way near Moffat. There are three photographs and they will scroll automatically. You can use the arrows to speed things up.

In April our walk took us up Criffel via Knockendoch and starting from Ardwall Mains.

December 2025

The day after Storm Bram in December the weather was almost perfect for walking. The Over the Hill Mob walk was was round Kettleton Reservoir starting from Morton Castle near Thornhill. The walk involved climbing up alongside Par Hill, skirted around Ashycleugh Hill then over Sware Hill and finally East Morton Hill back to Morton Castle.
