The Discussion Group on Religion are concerned largely with lively discussions of issues in the history and sociology of religion, and have also had visits from members of some local groups - including, to date, the Latter Day Saints (Mormons), the Society of Friends (Quakers), the Catholic Church and the Church of Scotland.
Our concern is with aspects of the history, sociology and doctrine of the groups that we look at, rather than with argument about religion as such. Members may – if it is relevant – refer to their own background or experience, but this is not a forum in which people are trying to convert one another to their own favoured religious view, or in which it would be appropriate to be unpleasant about views which other members might hold.
Our meetings typically take the form of an introduction, followed by lively discussion.
