Book Group - Non-Fiction

Status:Active, open to new members
When: On Thursday mornings
Fourth Thursday of the month
Venue: Member's Homes
Group Leader:- Jeremy Shearmur
Venue:- Members' Homes
Time:- 10.30-12.30 Fourth Thursday of the month.

Our small group meets once a to discuss books agreed by members of many different kinds.

Recently we have discussed:

Chris van Tulleken’s Ultra-Processed People which is a striking study by a medical researcher and broadcaster about the harm that certain kinds of ‘ultra-processed’ food may be doing to us. He explains his case well, and documents his argument with extensive references to the scientific literature, but there is a lot about the book which is controversial.

David Grann’s The Wager - a tale of shipwreck, mutiny and murder from the mid-C18.

Nick Bryant’s When America Stopped Being Great is an interesting and very readable discussion – by a former BBC correspondent – of America’s path from Reagan to Trump.

Anyone interested in joining should contact Jeremy Shearmur on 01387 739722
